About US!

FishLove (FishCredit) is funded by the Reversing Environmental Degradation in Africa and Asia (REDAA) is a programme that supports research, innovation, and action in Africa and Asia for locally led restoration. It is funded by UK International Development from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and managed by IIED.

Our Mission:

"To build a fairer, more sustainable fish industry value chain by partnering with indigenous coastal communities. We use evidence, co-created digital tools, and local influence to help people and nature thrive together."

Our Story:

What is environmental degradation and its causes in the context of Indigenous Fish Farming communities ?

This question sparked a deep investigation, a search not just for problems, but for solutions rooted in the community itself. From this quest, FishLove was born. Supported by the Royal Academy of Engineering and REDAA.

FishLove wasn't created to dictate answers, but to find and amplify the community-led solutions needed to heal their environment and sustain their heritage.

Reversing Environmental Degradation in Africa and Asia (REDAA) is a programme that supports research, innovation and action in sub-Saharan Africa and South and Southeast Asia by offering grants and technical assistance. Funded projects are interdisciplinary, locally led, and focused on solutions for ecosystem restoration, enabling people and nature to thrive together in a changing climate.

The REDAA programme offers technical support to REDAA-funded initiatives on organisational practices based on common needs, aiming to enhance local capacity and foster collaboration among practitioners. It also seeks to broaden the impact of its research-to-action projects by sharing generated knowledge with a wider community of practice.

REDAA is funded by UK International Development from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and managed by IIED.

The Frontiers symposia bring together around 70 of the best early- and mid-career researchers and practitioners from industry, academia, non-government organisations (NGOs), community groups, and the public sector in multidisciplinary workshops that address fundamental development challenges.

The symposia’s objectives are to encourage collaborative work that addresses international development challenges and to promote cross-disciplinary thinking among the next generation of engineering leaders.

Competitively allocated seed funding is available to strengthen the collaborations developed at the symposia.

Digital Tools for Reversing Environmental Degradation

The Frontiers symposium took place online from 9 to 19 January 2023. Together with the Reversing Environmental Degradation in Africa and Asia (REDAA) programme, the Frontiers team brought together 77 delegates from different disciplines, fields, and countries to discuss the many ways digital tools can be used to reverse environmental degradation. The event took place virtually through workshop-style sessions and networking and was co-chaired by Minnie Degawan and Edwin Macharia.
